Phoenix Partners Group announced today that it has hired Niels Nooy to launch the firm’s European emerging markets business

2009.04.02 : New York – Phoenix Partners Group, a leading interdealer credit and equity derivatives broker with offices in New York, London and Paris, announced today that it has hired Niels Nooy to launch the firm’s European emerging markets business.

Mr. Nooy, who is based in the Phoenix Partners Group’s London office, brokers emerging market bonds and credit default swaps. He plans additional hires in the near future.

The launch of Phoenix Partners Group’s European emerging markets business is the latest in a series of ongoing expansion efforts.  In February, the firm launched North American and European equity derivatives markets groups and opened an office in Paris.  Earlier this month, it initiated environmental brokerage services for the renewable energy and emissions markets worldwide.  The firm also recently hired a COO, CFO, and Corporate Counsel, all newly created positions.

“Recruiting Niels to lead our European emerging markets business demonstrates our ability to attract top-flight talent to help us expand into new areas and further strengthen our position as the premier global broking firm,” said CEO Nick Stephan.  “We have the resources, infrastructure, and flexibility to continue with our ambitious plans.”

Mr. Nooy joins Phoenix Partners Group from Global Evolution in Denmark, an emerging market asset manager, where he was Head of International Sales & Distribution across all products including long-only funds, CDOs and hedge funds.  Prior to that position, he was at Merrill Lynch for four years trading emerging markets debt with a focus on Russia and Eastern Europe. He started his career in emerging markets at ING Barings where he spent nine years trading EM distressed and defaulted sovereign and corporate debt.
